If you’re an amateur photographer with an interest in submitting your personal images to online photo printing for your interior design and wall decoration, you have probably noticed that when you go looking for advice the assumption seems to always be that you’ve either got a point and shoot dedicated camera, or a smartphone of some sort. The form factor of the smartphone or camera is, of course, ideal in many ways, but there’s an old saying that the best camera is always the one you have with you, so if an iPad or other tablet is something you use every day for other aspects of your life or business, carrying around a secondary device just to take photos with might be inconvenient.
Many disparage the tablet computer as a camera device, and for some good reasons: Many lack a flash, and the form factor isn’t exactly easy to use for some people. But you can still take amazing photographs that are more than worthy of online photo printing for use on your walls. In fact, in many ways a tablet computer can make a fantastic camera.
Online Photo Printing with a Tablet: Large Enough for Everyone
One of the main advantages of a tablet computer as a camera device is also one its main disadvantages – it’s all about your perspective. For a lot of people the awkward size of a tablet, requiring both hands and heavier than most would like for holding still for long periods of time, is a distinct disadvantage. But for older people who have trouble with the small screen and tiny controls of a smartphone or even a more traditional camera, a tablet presents a nice big screen and interface that makes taking photos much easier.
The screen size is also an advantage in one distinct sense for everyone: The bigger screen means you can more easily compose your shots, because you don’t need to squint down to a three-inch screen and try to mentally imagine it as a larger piece of canvas art.
The Tablet as Camera: Some Tips
Using a tablet as a camera can be an adjustment. While almost every tablet comes with a camera built-in, the cameras are often of lesser quality than those in smartphones. There’s also a lot less choice in the tablet world; unlike phones, which sports a thousand brands and models to choose from, the tablet world is clearly dominated by the iPad, with a few dozen outliers of dubious pedigree competing against it. And the camera in each model of the iPad is nothing to shout about.
Still, there are ways to take much better photos with your tablet:
- Hold Still. Practice holding the tablet – it’s heavier than you think, and your arms will quickly grow tired if you hold it up to take a photo. Plan out your shots in your head before raising the tablet to snap away so as to minimise the strain of holding the device up.
- Get Close. Even more so than with other devices, the tablet is a camera that will work best without zooming, so get in as close as you can.
- Add a Light Source. Since most tablets don’t have a flash (and ones that do have a low-quality flash) bring along an extra light source if you’re shooting in low light (a pocket flashlight that pops open to be a small lantern is a good choice) in order to get better shots.
The tablet will never be the greatest camera you own, but as we said, if it’s the camera you have with you, and then it’s the best camera on hand. Learn to use it and you’ll soon have photos worthy of being made into photo art. And when you do, click here and we’ll be glad to make certain that quality transfers to your wall!
